All the flavors of a churro combine into a silky smooth custard that has whipped cream folded into it. It's a dream, and it's so good on anything. Especially, strawberries. I'm talking.... purely DIVINE.
Churros are one of my very favorite desserts. I just love them. They're crispy, sweet, warm, cinnamon-y, comforting, and absolutely irresistible. If anyone offers me a gluten free churro, you best believe I'm snatching it up.
My favorite place in the world to get GF churros is at Walt Disney World in Florida. They have this hidden gem of a snack bar / cocktail lounge called the Nomad Lounge in Animal Kingdom. It is right near Pandora's World of Avatar. I can't go to Disney without stopping by this place... at least once.
It takes a lot of work to fry churros, and let's be honest. I can be a bit lazy. So, when I don't feel like going to the extent of making churros at home, I still love and crave the taste of them. This Churro diplomat cream is a dream. I would gladly sit on the couch and eat it with a spoon, but I am sure it's delicious on fruit, graham crackers, vanilla wafer cookies, or just about anything.
I love to fill cakes with it, and especially this Churro inspired cake I made for the judges on Halloween Wars : Season 12 - Episode 5. We were tasked with using a Mexican dessert as our inspiration. The obvious choice off the list was Churros. DUH!
What is Diplomat Cream?
Essentially, a diplomat cream is a pastry cream that has whipped cream folded into it. It's that simple. You make a cinnamon-spiced pastry cream (custard) and once it has cooled, you carefully fold in some whipped heavy cream. Nothing too fancy.
To ensure that I do not deflate all the beautiful air I have incorporated into the whipped cream, I always mix the whipped cream into the pastry cream with a whisk, instead of a spatula. This helps to prevent over-mixing.
How to Use Churro Diplomat Cream?
This cream is the perfect filling for a cake, cupcake, tart shell, or dip for fruit. I'm sure there are so many other uses for this delicious, creamy mixture. I adore it. I know that you and your whole family will, too.
I'm drooling just thinking about how delicious graham crackers and strawberries are when dipped into this delicious churro cream. It's so good. It most certainly is a fruit dip. SO GOOOOD!!!
